An embroidered garden, inspired by a photograph of a garment, which was originally inspired by a garden.

Unlike my usual freestyle from imagination approach to embroidery, I began this project by researching and sketching.

I copied ferns and flowers from ‘Fashioned from Nature’ - a book about the way fashion has always been inspired by nature.

I didn’t map out the garden, rather I explored and rehearsed different plant shapes in my sketches.

When I began embroidering I had a few new genres of plant in mind, rather than the simple spirals and stems that had become my default.
